How To Apply Press-On Nails

Press-on nails are an awesome alternative way to doing your nails. I abandoned acrylic nails completely and fell in love with press-on nails for the simple reason that press-ons are cheaper. I personally don’t believe in spending anything less than $30 on my nails. However, getting a gel set of nails done in Calgary starts at $50 and that’s before I add different colours, designs, and sparkles. Press-on nails have been the perfect way to satisfy my bougie designs while on a budget.

In any case, if you want to know how to apply press-on nails properly, then you’ve come to the right place! Two Sistahs Beauty Inc, a new online beauty supply store, sent me the nails being featured in today’s blogpost. I love the bordeaux and gold colour scheme of the nails. Dark, vampy colours are perfect for the fall and winter season.

The press-on nail set was neatly packaged with instructions, and nail prep tools. Since I prefer to keep my press-on nails for a longer period of time than the stick-on tabs allow, I opted to use a common nail glue that can be found at any drugstore.

Step 1: Clean your nails

The first step is to make sure that your nail beds are clean and dry, so I washed my hands before wiping each nail with the provided wipe. This prep step ensures that there is nothing to hinder the press-on from having maximum adhesion to your nails. It also never hurts to wash and sanitize your hands because COVID. Just saying.

Step 2: Prep your nails

After cleaning your nails, use the wooden tool to push your cuticles back as far as you can. This gives you space to tuck the press-on nail underneath to achieve a seamless and more natural looking application.

Step 3: Choose the right size for your nails

It’s not possible for everyone’s nail beds to be the same size. That’s why I’m glad that the Two sistahs Beauty Inc set of press-ons came with 24 nail size options. Some brands require you order based on a size guide, buy a sample set to test out size, or place a custom order and measure every nail. While these methods lead to the best result and fit, process is awfully tedious, adds to cost, and takes time so I am grateful when brands provide a set of options to select from.

Lay out all the nails and place them on each nail to measure the fit until you have found the appropriate size for each nail.

Step 4: Apply glue and pressure

Apply glue to the base of your nail bed, and spread it across your entire nail. Remember, a little goes a long way so don’t apply too much. Do the same to the press-on nail but only apply the glue to the bottom half of the nail that will be adhering to your nail bed.

Now attach the press-on to your nail bed and press down for at least 30 seconds. If any nail glue spills over the sides, do your best to wipe it away immediately.

NOTE: Do your thumb last! Applying your press-on to your thumb makes the process harder and slower. I made this mistake my very first time and spent a long time bending fingers in awkward positions and dropping nails because my thumb nails were in the way and refused to let me be great.

I hope my explanation was clear and easy to follow. You can check out the unboxing of the press-on set HERE and tap to the last unboxing. You can shop my press-on nail set HERE and checkout Two Sistahs Beauty Inc HERE to shop more press-on nail sets, makeup, lashes and more!
